Philippine Agroforestry Education and Research Network (PAFERN)

The Philippine Agroforestry Education and Research Network (PAFERN) started as an informal coalition of state colleges and universities offering agroforestry education programs.  The need for the formation of this coalition was expressed to help address the institutional issues and development needs of these institutions.  PAFERN was formally established on November 24, 2001 during the 1st National Meeting-Workshop that was participated by the heads of concerned educational institutions.  It was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in February 2003.

PAFERN envisions a well-coordinated and effective institutional delivery of agroforestry education, research and extension services to address the various issues and challenges facing agroforestry in the Philippines.  Its mission is to enhance and sustain the capabilities and commitment of member-institutions to deliver quality agroforestry education, research and extension.  As such, PAFERN’s goal is geared towards institutionalizing strong links, within and among its member-institutions and other agroforestry stakeholders.  Specifically, PAFERN aims to:

a)   Maintain Productive linkages among member-institutions;

b)   Strengthen institutional capabilities of member-institutions in agroforestry education, research and extension;

c)   Promote sustained development of agroforestry as a distinct discipline and as a profession;

d)   Facilitate exchange of education and technical information materials among schools and various organizations; and
